Global oil prices fell as optimism over the possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz eased fears of disruptions to crude supplies from the Middle East.

Brent crude futures declined, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also slipped as investors responded to signs of progress in diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring shipping through the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz carries around one-fifth of global oil shipments, making it one of the world's most important energy transit routes.

Market sentiment improved after senior US officials indicated that negotiations were making progress and a deal to reopen the strait could be within reach.

The prospect of uninterrupted oil flows reduced the geopolitical risk premium that had supported higher crude prices in recent months.

However, analysts warned that uncertainty remains, as several issues in the negotiations are yet to be resolved and regional security risks continue to pose challenges.

They said recent attacks claimed by Yemen's Houthi rebels and broader concerns over maritime security could still affect the outlook for global oil markets.
