Bangladesh, Malaysia Boost Labour Market Cooperation

Bangladesh and Malaysia have held productive discussions on labour market cooperation, with both sides exploring ways to expand employment opportunities, increase manpower exports and strengthen bilateral collaboration.

The high-level meetings took place on Tuesday and Wednesday at Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources in Putrajaya, according to an official message received on Wednesday.

Bangladesh's Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mahdi Amin, and Adviser to the Ministries of Labour and Employment and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Choudhury, held talks with Malaysia's Minister of Human Resources, Dato' Sri Ramanan.

The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including labour market access, manpower exports, employment expansion, workers' welfare and labour migration.

Senior officials from Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources, along with representatives of relevant agencies and labour market stakeholders, also attended the meetings.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, expanding existing employment opportunities and deepening collaboration on issues of mutual interest.

Ariful Haque Choudhury and Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin are currently on a three-day official visit to Malaysia.

On the first day of the visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

During the call, the two leaders emphasised the importance of strengthening Bangladesh-Malaysia relations through enhanced cooperation in energy, investment, port development and broader economic collaboration.

Their discussions also covered Malaysia's support for supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh through the state-owned energy company PETRONAS, the progress of investment by Axiata Group Berhad, prospects for a strategic partnership, and potential cooperation with MMC Corporation Berhad in port and infrastructure development.
