Jamaat leads in 3 of four Kushtia constituencies; BNP in one

Jamaat-e-Islami candidates are leading in three of the four parliamentary constituencies in Kushtia district, while a BNP-backed candidate is ahead in one, according to unofficial results of the 13th national election.


In Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur), former MP Reza Ahmed Bachchu Mollah of BNP is leading with 122,605 votes from 91 of 135 polling centres. His nearest rival, Md Belal Uddin of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, received 61,288 votes.

In Kushtia-2 (Mirpur-Bheramara), Md Abdul Gafur of Jamaat-e-Islami secured 86,607 votes, ahead of BNP’s Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury, who received 63,345 votes from 76 of 170 polling centres.

In Kushtia-3 (Sadar), Jamaat-e-Islami’s Mufti Amir Hamza leads with 79,440 votes, while BNP’s Engineer Md Zakir Hossain Sarkar got 53,871 votes from 61 of 142 polling centres.

In Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksa), Md Afzal Hossain of Jamaat-e-Islami received 31,592 votes, ahead of BNP’s Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi, who secured 25,132 votes from 31 of 152 polling centres.

The results indicate a strong showing by Jamaat-e-Islami in the district, though the Election Commission has yet to officially announce the final outcomes, reports UNB.
