A delegation of the National Pay Commission held a meeting with the Chief Adviser Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in the city this afternoon.
National Pay Commission Chairman and PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan informed Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus that the new national pay structure for public sector officials and employees will be finalized ahead of the six-month deadline.
“We have already started work in full swing. While six months have been allotted, we aim to submit the final report sooner,” he said at a meeting with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna this afternoon. A delegation from the commission accompanied him.
Zakir, a former finance secretary, noted that salaries have not kept pace with inflation and GDP growth over the past decade. He added that the commission is working on a comprehensive plan, including specialized salary structures, income tax-adjusted pay, allowances for house rent, medical and transportation, inflation-based adjustments, timely pensions, and retirement benefits.
The commission will also recommend a system to rationalize perks such as telephone, car, and mobile allowances, eliminate discrepancies in salary grades, and evaluate employee performance.
Professor Yunus instructed the commission to ensure a fair and realistic salary structure for both government and autonomous officials. He also strongly urged the introduction of a health insurance scheme, noting that even a single illness can devastate a family’s savings, while insurance would provide financial security.
The National Pay Commission, formed after a decade, is tasked with reviewing and recommending salaries, allowances, and benefits for officials in government, semi-government, autonomous organizations, state-owned banks, approved universities, and state-owned industries.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary M Siraz Uddin Miah, and Public Administration Secretary Md Mokhles Ur Rahman were present at the meeting.
