Officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have called off their two-day strike after facing strong warnings from the government and pressure from leading business figures.

Hasan Mohammad Tarek Rikabder, president of the NBR Reform Unity Council, announced the decision at a media briefing held at the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries in Dhaka on Saturday evening.

The strike had severely disrupted customs and port operations nationwide, affecting trade and revenue services. Earlier in the day, the government signalled it would resort to stricter actions to restore normalcy.

In a move to ease tensions, the government also formed a five-member advisory committee to address concerns surrounding the NBR reform ordinance, which had sparked protests among revenue officials across the country.
