Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said today that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed satisfaction with Bangladesh’s recent economic progress.

“ADB said they are very pleased with Bangladesh’s achievements compared to many other countries. They are closely observing our development, especially as we prepare to graduate from LDC status,” Salehuddin told reporters.

He made the remarks after meeting ADB Vice President for South, Central, and West Asia, Yingming Yang, during the 58th ADB Annual Meeting in Milan, Italy.

Responding to a question, the adviser said ADB has pledged continued support for reforms in the banking sector and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

He also hinted that the upcoming FY2025–26 budget will be realistic and focused on efficiency. “Our priorities are to reduce unnecessary expenditure and improve project management,” he added.

Salehuddin further noted that ADB will maintain support for existing infrastructure initiatives and future pipeline projects. “The ADB Vice President inquired about our economic condition, and we assured him that key sectors, including banking and revenue, are performing well,” he said.
