PM, World Bank President Discuss Bangladesh’s Development

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on Tuesday discussed Bangladesh’s development priorities, economic progress and ways to further strengthen World Bank support for the country.

The meeting took place at the UN Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

They also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and explored opportunities to expand the partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank in the future, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting was part of the Prime Minister’s series of bilateral and high-level engagements during his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly.

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman attended a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for heads of delegation and their spouses.

He later joined the high-level General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold further bilateral and high-level meetings with heads of government and senior officials of international organisations during his stay in New York.

He is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 24, delivering his first speech at the world body as prime minister. His address is expected to outline Bangladesh’s vision for the future, development priorities and positions on major regional and global issues.
