A third earthquake occurred at 1:27am, when a magnitude 3.8 tremor struck the Agartala/Tripura region of India. Mild shaking was reported in Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh.
India’s National Centre for Seismology also recorded a magnitude 3.8 earthquake in Tripura’s Dhalai area.
The tremors were followed by another earthquake in the early morning.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred at around 4:00am, with its epicentre about 443 kilometres from Dhaka.
Details about the exact location and any possible impact of the latest tremor were not immediately available.
The successive earthquakes caused concern among residents in several parts of the country, particularly as tremors were felt repeatedly within a short period.
However, no immediate reports of casualties or major damage were available following the overnight tremors.
The latest series of earthquakes comes amid several seismic events recorded around Bangladesh and neighbouring regions in recent days.
