Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug dealer with 31 kilograms of marijuana in an operation under Mohanpur upazila of the district in the early hours of today.

At that time, one of his associates managed to flee cunningly.

Based on a secret tip-off, a team of the Sadar Company of RAB-5, Rajshahi, conducted an operation on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in front of the Kesharhat Government Primary School under Mohanpur Police Station at 3:10am today.

In the operation, Mukul alias Kalu, 40, son of the late Kitab Ali of Bakshail village in Mohanpur upazila, was arrested with the contraband marijuana.

RAB said that another accused, truck driver Raju Mia, 20, managed to escape cunningly during the operation.

According to RAB, during preliminary interrogation, the arrested confessed that he had been collecting marijuana in various ways in collusion with his absconding associate for a long time and selling it in Mohanpur and other areas.

He also confessed that he had stored the seized marijuana for the purpose of selling it, the sources added.

A case has been lodged at Mohanpur Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act against the arrested Mukul and the fugitive Raju Mia in this incident, reports BSS.
