Patuakhali: An attack led by the Jubo Dal President of the union took place on protesting workers at the Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant in Kalapara, Patuakhali. At least 12 members of the Naujan Sramik Union were injured in this connection. Among them, 5 people named Rezaul Pyada (40), Hiron Pyada (35), Imam Pyada (30), Khokon (25) and Hasan (20) were seriously injured and admitted to Kalapara Hospital. The incident took place in Battola Bazar adjacent to the jetty of the thermal power plant on Tuesday afternoon.
The injured workers said that the workers had been protesting and holding a sit-in program since 11 am on Tuesday demanding the inclusion of members of the government-registered organization Patuakhali Naujan Sramik Union in the loading and unloading of ships at the Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant. At around 3 pm, they temporarily suspended the movement with the mediation of Kalapara Police Station. However, they were staying separately at Battala Bazar. Later, at around 5:30 pm, 7 to 8 people led by Dhankhali Union Jubo Dal President Tapan Mridha attacked them with sticks. Later, locals rescued the injured and brought them to Kalapara Hospital.
In this regard, Dhankhali Union Jubo Dal President Tapan Mridha said that there were administration people at the spot. If they say that he was involved in the beating, then he is a criminal. After hearing the incident, he went there.
