
Four mayoral candidates of Kalapara.
Patuakhali: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, there is a rush of mayor and councilor candidates to extend Eid greetings to the residents of Kalapara municipality of Patuakhali by posting on social media or by pasting colorful banners, festoons, and posters.
Some of these mayor and councilor candidates have started exchanging Eid greetings at tea shops or by visiting voters' homes. In addition, they have continued to communicate with voters by attending social events and festivals and delivering gifts to them as much as possible to make a place in their hearts. To attract voters, the candidates are talking about various promises and commitments in their posters, festoons, and social media posts.
The list of candidates who wished the public on the occasion of Eid includes Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary and former VP Advocate Khandaker Nasir Uddin, Municipal BNP President Gazi Md. Faruk, General Secretary Musa Tauhid Nannu Munshi, Upazila BNP Youth Affairs Secretary Md. Abul Hasnat Rimon Sikder, and several other candidates willing to participate in the local government council elections.
Mayoral candidate who wished the residents on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary and Kalapara Chowki Court Lawyers Association President Advocate Khandaker Nasir Uddin told the media that he wants the residents' cooperation in building a green and clean municipality. If elected mayor, he will work to eliminate drugs and extortion and form a municipality with improved communication and sewage.
Young mayoral candidate Upazila BNP Youth Affairs Secretary Haji Rimon Sikder said, 'My father Haji Humayun Sikder is a successful mayor of Kalapara Municipality who has been elected repeatedly. I want to serve the people of the municipality under his guidance. If the people elect me as mayor, I will ensure a corruption-free municipality and bring the municipal tax to a tolerable level for the citizens. In addition, I will stop collecting extortion from all types of vehicles within the municipality.'
Municipal BNP President Gazi Md. Faruk wants to form a citizen-friendly municipality if elected mayor and ensure the services expected by the citizens.
Municipal BNP Secretary Musa Tauhid Nannu Munshi said, I want to be a citizen-friendly mayor. I want to ensure transparency and accountability in all development and service activities of the municipality.
Incidentally, Kalapara Municipality was established on March 1, 1997. It is 244 kilometers south of the capital Dhaka, in Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali District, on the "Dhaka-Kuakata" highway and the Kalapara Bridge built over the Andharmanik River reaches the Kuakata Tourist Center through this municipality. The area of the municipality is 3.75 square kilometers (proposed 15.20 square kilometers). It has 9 wards and a population of 19782.00 people (according to the 2011 census) of males - 9944, females - 9838. It initially started its journey as a "C" class municipality, but was upgraded to "A" class on 13 September 2015. Kalapara UNO is serving as the administrator of the municipality since 5 August.
