6 children die of suspected measles

Six more children died of suspected measles across the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,256 new measles cases were reported during the period, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).


It said six people died of suspected measles in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths from suspected measles since March 15 to 874 children.

No one died of confirmed measles in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, however, 99 people have died of confirmed measles.

The release said 1,162 suspected measles cases were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected cases from March 15 to August 31 to 157,991.

The number of confirmed measles cases in the past 24 hours stood at 94, while the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 reached 19,312.

From March 15 to August 31, a total of 138,445 patients with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals. During the same period, 133,400 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals, reports BSS.
