A sharp rise in measles infections has been reported, with the country recording its highest single-day surge alongside eight new child deaths.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services control room, 143 of the newly admitted patients have been confirmed as measles cases, while 1,421 others are being treated for suspected symptoms.
Health officials said one of the eight deceased children tested positive for measles, while the others showed classic symptoms of the disease. The outbreak has been escalating since March 15.
So far, the disease has claimed 43 confirmed measles-related deaths, along with 216 additional deaths among suspected cases. Dhaka has been the worst affected area, reporting 28 confirmed and 102 suspected fatalities.
Between March 15 and April 26, a total of 32,028 children have been hospitalized with measles-like symptoms across the country. Of them, 4,603 cases have been laboratory confirmed.
Medical experts have expressed concern over the accelerating spread of the disease, warning that the rising number of daily infections is putting significant pressure on pediatric healthcare services nationwide.
