Fisherman killed, 3 hurt in Netrakona lightning strike

A fisherman named Ratan Das, 35, was killed and three others were injured by lightning strike while fishing in the Mahishasura Haor in Kalmakanda upazila of the district early today.


The deceased, Ratan Das, was the son of Niranjan Das of Nayapara village under Kalmakanda Sadar Union.

The injured are Joysen Das, 25, Hridoy Das, 22, and Dinanath Das, 45, all from the same village. They are all professional fishermen.

According to police, the injured reportedly have reduced hearing due to the intensity of the thunderclap.

Confirming the incident, Kalmakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mostafizur Rahman told BSS that an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been filed in connection with the incident. 

The body was handed over to the family after completion of the legal procedures, reports BSS.
