India Set to Resume Full Visa Services for Bangladeshis After April

India is expected to resume all categories of visa services for Bangladeshi citizens, including tourist visas, following the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April.

A senior official at the Indian High Commission, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that once elections for all 294 constituencies are completed, full visa services are likely to be restored.

Earlier, on 18 February, Aniruddha Roy, senior consular officer at the Indian mission in Sylhet, said the process to fully reopen all visa services has already begun.

Speaking at the Sylhet District Press Club, Roy noted that while medical and double-entry visas are currently being issued, steps are underway to resume other categories, including tourist visas, in the near future.

“We are making every effort to simplify visa services,” he said. Full visa services from Bangladesh to India were largely suspended after the fall of the previous government.

While emergency medical visas continued to be issued, many patients reportedly faced difficulties obtaining them.

In response to these restrictions, Bangladesh also imposed visa limitations on Indian nationals amid rising bilateral tensions.
