China has congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the peaceful conduct of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and welcomed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s lead in the polls.

In a message issued on Thursday, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka praised what it described as the smooth and successful completion of the election and extended congratulations to the BNP for emerging ahead.

The embassy said it looks forward to working closely with the incoming government and deepening bilateral cooperation.

China also expressed its interest in strengthening longstanding ties and advancing what it termed a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
