The Rajya Sabha of India will hold obituary references on Wednesday to pay tributes to several distinguished personalities, including former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

According to the official List of Business of the Upper House of India, the obituary references will be taken up half an hour after the conclusion of the President’s Address to a joint sitting of Parliament.

Besides Khaleda Zia, the House will also pay homage to former Rajya Sabha members Shri L. Ganesan and Shri Suresh Kalmadi.

Earlier in the session, the Secretary-General will lay on the table a copy of the President’s Address, in both English and Hindi, delivered to both Houses of Parliament assembled together on January 28.

Khaleda Zia, a three-time Prime Minister of Bangladesh, significantly shaped the country’s politics and democracy, influencing its regional relations, including with India, reports UNB.

The List of Business was issued by Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P. C. Mody on January 27.
