The air force chiefs of Bangladesh and Pakistan have held talks on the potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, according to official information from Pakistan’s military.

Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu in Islamabad while leading a senior defence delegation. He was received with a guard of honour upon arrival.

The discussions focused on strengthening operational cooperation and institutional coordination, with emphasis on training, capacity building and collaboration in aerospace technology.

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu briefed his counterpart on recent developments within the Pakistan Air Force and expressed readiness to support the Bangladesh Air Force through a comprehensive training framework, ranging from basic flight training to advanced and specialised courses. He also assured expedited delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, supported by a long-term training and technical assistance programme.

Air Marshal Khan praised the operational record of the Pakistan Air Force and showed interest in benefiting from its experience. He sought cooperation in maintaining Bangladesh’s ageing aircraft fleet and in integrating air defence radar systems to enhance surveillance capabilities.

Officials said detailed discussions were held on the possible acquisition of JF-17 Thunder aircraft. The Bangladeshi delegation also visited several key Pakistan Air Force facilities during the trip.

The visit underscored longstanding ties between the two countries and reflected a shared intent to deepen defence cooperation and pursue a durable strategic partnership.

The JF-17 Thunder is a multi-role combat aircraft jointly developed by China and Pakistan.
