
India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday paid tribute to former Bangladesh prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, saying her contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh would always be remembered.
Singh visited the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to express his condolences following the death of the BNP chairperson. During the visit, he signed the condolence book opened at the mission in memory of the late leader.
In his message, the Indian defence minister acknowledged Begum Khaleda Zia’s role in advancing cooperation and mutual understanding between the two neighbouring countries, noting that her efforts had left a lasting impact on bilateral ties.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah received Rajnath Singh at the High Commission and accompanied him during the condolence visit.
The visit was seen as a reflection of India’s respect for the former prime minister and an expression of solidarity with the people of Bangladesh at a time of national mourning. It also underscored the importance both countries attach to maintaining and strengthening their long-standing relationship.
