France Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet met with Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

France has expressed its readiness to collaborate with Bangladesh on civil defence and disaster preparedness following the recent Dhaka earthquake.

The commitment was conveyed during a courtesy call by French Ambassador Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet on Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at the Secretariat.

The meeting saw both sides exchange views on disaster preparedness, post-earthquake response strategies, and future cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s civil defence capabilities.

Preparations for the upcoming national elections were also discussed, with the Adviser briefing the Ambassador on measures to ensure election security and stability.

Highlighting emerging challenges, Ambassador Séré-Charlet noted the growing threat of disinformation, citing Europe’s experience with information attacks, particularly from Russia.

The envoy commended the recent training of Bangladeshi officers in forensic science and investigation, conducted with French support, calling it a successful initiative that paves the way for deeper cooperation in security and capacity-building.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
