Kosovo’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Lulzim Pllana, visited the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday, marking the first-ever meeting of any Kosovan diplomat at the institution.
The ambassador met with the club’s General Secretary, Ayyub Bhuiyan, at his office in the afternoon following a special invitation for a courtesy call.
Senior journalists including former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity Rafiqul Islam Azad, Imtiaz Ahmed and SM Rana were present on the occasion.
During the meeting, Ambassador Pllana highlighted Kosovo’s historic struggle for independence from Serbia, emphasising the sacrifices made by its people.
Responding to a question from the General Secretary, he said Kosovo expects to secure membership in the European Union soon and believes it is ahead of others in meeting the required criteria.
He also discussed bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Kosovo, noting Bangladesh’s recognition of Kosovo in 2018 and the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2019.
He added that Kosovo, a country with a 93.5 per cent Muslim population, continues to maintain strong and friendly relations with Bangladesh.
The General Secretary spoke about the political history of the Balkan region, recalling that both World War I and World War II had roots in the area.
Ambassador Pllana later toured the club’s library, media centre, lounge, and scenic lawn, where he interacted with senior journalists.
