Guterres Inaugurates New "UN House" in Bangladesh

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres officially opened the new "UN House in Bangladesh" in Dhaka on Saturday. The event was attended by key officials, including Industries, Housing, and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Environment and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwyn Lewis.

During his visit, Guterres toured the UN Common Premises, viewed a 50th anniversary photo exhibition, and participated in an official UN flag-raising ceremony. The visit followed a meeting with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh.

Later in the day, Guterres is set to join a roundtable discussion on reform proposals at Hotel InterContinental, scheduled for 12:45 PM to 2:15 PM. He will also engage in a dialogue with youth and meet with civil society members from 2:15 PM to 5:15 PM at the same venue. A joint press briefing with Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain is scheduled for 5:20 PM.

On Friday, Guterres visited the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, stressing the urgent need for international support for the Rohingya community to live with dignity in Bangladesh. He is set to depart Dhaka on Sunday morning.
