Speaker for prioritising equity-based economic recovery in post-Covid period

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today called for giving priority globally and socially to equity-based economic recovery to cope with post-Covid situation.

She said this while speaking at a session on 'addressing the Risk of the post pandemic global recovery' of the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, said a press release here today.

Shirin said the Covid-19 global pandemic brought untold misery in the world economy and public life.

Global challenges like building advanced, robust, inclusive and equity-based society and ensuring health services, education and food security are connected with economic expansion, she said, adding that economic expansion is essential in economic recovery.

Senate of Uzbekistan Chairwoman Tanzila Narbaeva chaired the session while IPU President Duarte Pacheco delivered the welcome address.

Earlier, Senate of Uzbekistan Chairwoman Tanzila Narbaeva accompanied by Uzbek parliament members welcomed Bangladesh JS Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the Tashkent Airport.

Shirin's entourages lawmakers Sagufta Yasmin, Parveen Haque Shikder, Adiba Anjum Mita, JS Secretariat Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary Sumia Khanam and serjeant-at-arms Mia Mohammad Nayeem Rahman were present among others, reports BSS.
