Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Tokyo on a four-day trip from October 26 to 29 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Preparations for the visit are underway, with Bangladesh and Japan coordinating the final schedule and arrangements. Recent discussions between officials from the two countries have focused on organising the three- to four-day visit.

Takaichi extended the invitation to Tarique during the seventh Bangladesh-Japan Foreign Office Consultations held in Dhaka on August 12.

Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu conveyed the invitation on behalf of Takaichi during the consultations, according to Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry.

The consultations reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to strengthening their Strategic Partnership, with discussions covering trade and investment, energy security, green energy, defence cooperation, people-to-people ties and other areas of mutual interest.

The upcoming visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Bangladesh and Japan to advance discussions on bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, development assistance and energy.

Japan has been a longstanding development partner of Bangladesh, while both countries have been working to expand economic and strategic cooperation under their Strategic Partnership.

Bangladesh, in turn, invited Prime Minister Takaichi to pay an official visit to Dhaka at a mutually convenient time.
