Bangladesh, Malaysia Boost Agriculture, Livestock Ties

The issue was discussed during a courtesy meeting between Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid and Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman at the Secretariat today.

During the meeting, both sides held fruitful discussions on further consolidating the existing friendly relations between the two countries while expanding cooperation in fisheries, livestock, and agriculture. Key areas of discussion included the export potential of halal meat, technology and knowledge exchange, research collaboration, skilled manpower development, increased investment, and expansion of agri-livestock trade.

A major focus of the talks was the export potential of Bangladesh’s world-renowned Black Bengal goat to Malaysia.

The discussions also covered the export prospects of fish, meat, milk, and other animal products.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid said Bangladesh and Malaysia could utilize their excellent bilateral relations to explore vast opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer, investment, and trade expansion in these sectors.

He sought Malaysia’s expertise and technical assistance to enhance Bangladesh’s capacity in the international halal meat market.

Expressing Malaysia’s interest in further cooperation, High Commissioner Othman praised Bangladesh’s significant progress in agriculture and livestock.

He reiterated Malaysia’s willingness to collaborate on expanding trade in promising animal and agricultural products, including the Black Bengal goat.

He also emphasized strengthening ties and cooperation between the public and private sectors of both countries.

First Secretary of the Malaysian High Commission Hazwan Hasnol was also present at the meeting, reports BSS.
