Dhaka Urges India to Curb Hasina's Political Activities

Bangladesh on Monday urged India to ensure that its territory is not used by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina or any other individual to make political statements or engage in activities aimed at creating instability in Bangladesh.

The message was conveyed by Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir during a meeting with newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kobir said such activities could undermine the positive momentum in bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

In response, the Indian High Commissioner assured that the matter would be duly considered, necessary inquiries would be made and appropriate steps taken.

The issue arose ahead of Sheikh Hasina's reported participation in a programme scheduled for August 5.

According to Indian media reports, Hasina is expected to make a virtual appearance at an event organised by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia) in New Delhi, marking her first public appearance in India since leaving Bangladesh following the student-led mass uprising two years ago.

The ministry said the matter was discussed alongside broader issues relating to Bangladesh-India relations and other matters of mutual interest.

Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and constructive engagement, expressing hope that outstanding issues could be resolved through mutual trust and discussion.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations based on mutual respect, trust and shared interests.

According to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, the talks focused on expanding people-centric cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.

The Indian High Commissioner reiterated New Delhi's commitment to working closely with the Bangladesh government to advance the development aspirations of the people of both countries.
