Khalilur's Maldives Visit to Boost Bilateral Ties

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman arrived in the Maldives on Saturday for a three-day official visit that the Maldivian government described as a "significant milestone" in strengthening the longstanding and friendly relations between the two countries.

"The visit sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the years ahead," the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Dr Khalilur was received at the airport by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The foreign minister is visiting the Maldives from July 25 to 27 as a special guest of the Maldivian government to attend celebrations marking the 61st Independence Day of the Republic of Maldives.

A senior Bangladeshi official said Dr Khalilur arrived in Malé via Doha after concluding his visit to Manila, the Philippines.

During the visit, he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.

The discussions will focus on further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the Maldives, reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation, and exploring new areas of collaboration of mutual interest.

The two foreign ministers are also expected to exchange views on regional and international developments and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.

This is Dr Khalilur's first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office as Bangladesh's foreign minister on February 17, 2026.
