Fisherman dies in lightning strike in Kuakata

Patuakhali: A fisherman named A. Mannan Howlader (55) died in a lightning strike in Kuakata, Patuakhali. The tragic accident occurred at around 10:30 am on Monday (June 8) in Mombipara area of Latachapoli union in Kuakata. The deceased A. Mannan Howlader is the son of the late Sultan Howlader of that area.

According to local and family sources, around 5 am on Monday, A. Mannan Howlader went fishing with some local companions in 33 Kani area of Mombipara. After fishing, on his way back home at around 10:30 am, a Kalbaisakhi storm suddenly started with frequent lightning strikes. At that time, he was seriously injured in the lightning strike. He was quickly taken to Kuakata 20-bed hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

The deceased's son Md. Mehedi Hasan said that his father was hit in the left ear by lightning and died on the spot.
