A former leader of Jubo Dal was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Raozan upazila of the district last night, according to district police.

The deceased Jane Alam Sikder, former joint convener of the Jubo Dal unit in Purba Gujra union, was attacked around 8:30pm in front of his home in the Sikdar Para area of the union.

Police and locals said he was known as a follower of Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, a BNP-nominated candidate from Raozan.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station Sajedul Islam said, "Three unidentified armed youths shot Alam in the chest around 8:30 pm while he was walking near a tea stall close to his house. After opening fire, they fled the scene."

Duty police responded promptly to the incident after being informed about the shooting.

Alam was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival, reports BSS.

"He was taken to the hospital, but died. We are investigating the incident and working to identify the individuals involved," the OC added.
