The arrestees were identified as Saiful Islam, 24, his elder sister Sumi Akhter, 32, and her husband Elahin alias Elahi alias Ibrahim (42).
Based on secret information, several teams of Kadamtoli police station conducted simultaneous drives in Kadamtoli thana area and arrested the trio from Jurain Boubazar area at around 9:00 pm on Saturday, said DC (Media) of the DMP Talebur Rahman.
According to sources at Kadamtali thana, the murder incident came to light on Friday morning when a suspicious sack was reported lying on the roadside in front of Haji Mishir Ali’s house on Lal Miah Road. Responding to a 999 emergency call at around 9:10am, a team of Kadamtoli thana police arrived at the scene, opened the sack in the presence of locals, and recovered the body of an unidentified woman. Then the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Later, with assistance from the CID fingerprint division, the victim was identified as Rokhsana. Following the identification, arrested Suma Akhter and her husband Elahi Ibrahim visited the thana introducing them as elder sister and brother-in-law of the victim Ruksana and confirmed Rokhsana’s identity from a photograph shown by the duty officer of the police station on Saturday noon. They informed the police that Ruksana had been missing since September 11. Later, they left the police station.
Officer-in-charge of Kadamtoli police station Mohammad Ayub told UNB that the police became suspicious when one Md. Gofran Hawlader went to the police station on Saturday afternoon and introduced him as the brother-in-law of the victim Ruksana. Later that day, Md. Gofran Hawlader filed a murder case with Kadamtali Police Station.
Soon after the case was filed, four separate investigation teams began working simultaneously. Analyzing CCTV footage from the crime scene and using digital forensics, investigators were able to identify the suspects and pinpoint their location. A targeted operation was launched, leading to the three arrests in the Jurain Boubazar area.
Based on information provided by the arrestees, police recovered a battery-run auto-rickshaw used in the crime, along with a polythene sheet and the victim’s sandals.
During preliminary interrogation, arrested Elahi Ibrahim revealed that the victim Rokhsana had been in a relationship with his brother-in-law Saiful. However, Saiful later became involved with another woman and expressed his intention to marry her. Rokhsana opposed this, which reportedly triggered the fatal conflict. Saiful, his sister Sumi, and her husband Elahi then conspired to murder Rokhsana. - UNB
