Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man with approximately 816 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) and a foreign pistol during a raid in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday afternoon.

The detainee, Shafiq, 26, is the son of Yunus from Old Pallanpara village in Teknaf, according to a press release issued by the BGB.

Acting on a tip-off, multiple specialised BGB teams led by Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman conducted an operation at the residence of a man named Karim in North Jaliapara area of Teknaf Municipality.

At around 3:30 pm, as the BGB team entered Karim’s residence, the occupants attempted to flee. Shafiq was apprehended on the spot, while Karim and two others managed to escape.

Following interrogation, Shafiq revealed the location of hidden contraband. A subsequent search of the residence uncovered 816 grams of crystal meth and one foreign pistol, concealed under a bed.

BGB said that Shafiq, along with the recovered drugs and firearm, would be handed over to the Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.

After the operation, Battalion Commander Ashikur Rahman spoke with local residents, emphasising the importance of anti-drug efforts and raising awareness about the devastating impact of drugs.

He urged the public to actively support BGB operations by sharing information that could help identify and bring drug traffickers to justice.

He reiterated that Border Guard Bangladesh is operating with utmost professionalism and a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, border crimes, and illegal activities.

The BGB official assured that such special operations would continue in the interest of national security and public welfare, reports UNB.
