A local activist of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal was brutally stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in the Dakkhinkhan area of Gazipur city on Friday night.

The victim, Rakib Molla, 35, was a candidate for the presidency of the Sadar Metro unit of Krishak Dal and the son of Ismail Molla.

According to Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan of Sadar Police Station, the attack took place around 9 pm while Rakib was on his way home. Witnesses reported that the attackers stabbed him indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

Rakib was rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may be linked to a rivalry over local dominance in the cable TV and internet business, police said. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
