Assailants murder Krishak League leader in Chuadanga

Chuadanga, Aug 06 - Chuadanga district unit of Awami League’s wing Krishak League president was hacked to death by assailants in Chuadanga Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

Deceased Golam Faruq Joarder, 57, was also former chairman of Mominpur union parishad in the upazila.

Locals said that he was severely injured by sharp weapons in front of Jubo League’s office at Mominpur Bazaar around 5pm. His house was attacked by miscreants amid the ongoing political turmoil.

Later, residents rescued him, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

Witnesses said, the conflict between two factions of the Awami League led to Faruq's death. They suggested that the perpetrators took advantage of the current chaotic situation.

Golam Faruq’s cousin, Mostafizur Rahman Maju, claimed that while Faruq was shopping in the market, several armed individuals led by local Awami League leader Manjilur attacked him with sticks and sharp weapons, inflicting fatal injuries. Faruq collapsed and died en route to the hospital.

Attempts to contact Abdullah Al Mamun, the current chairman of Mominpur union, for comment were unsuccessful as he was unreachable by phone.

Police also couldn’t be reached over phone in this regard.-UNB
