Woman held for university student's death

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a woman in connection with the alleged suicide of a 24-year-old student of a private university.
The detainee has been identified as Suraiya Islam Mim, also 24, daughter of Abul Kalam Azad of Kalipur upazila in Narail district, the elite force said on Saturday.
Tipped off, a Rab-6 team conducted a drive in the Masumdia area of Narail district on Friday and detained Mim for provoking Promise Nager, a journalism student of Northern University, to end his life, said Harsit Mandal, a sub-inspector at Sadar Police Station.
Mim went into hiding after hearing the news of Promise's suicide and subsequently took shelter in a relative’s house.
Promise allegedly committed suicide in his rented accommodation in the Sonadanga area of Khulna city on Wednesday.
Getting no response from Promise for a long time, other occupants of the house looked through the window of his room only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan around 6.30pm that day, according to Nahid Hasan Mridha, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Promise was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, bur declared dead on arrival.
