50 hurt in Faridpur clash over dominance

At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy centering the Pukhria Bus Stand on the Faridpur-Dhaka-Barishal highway in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district on Sunday.


Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station, said an altercation ensued between the residents of Mouji Mahsardi village under Hamirdi Union of Bhanga upazila and the residents of five villages, including Pukhria and Brahmankanda under Manikdi Union, over establishing supremacy centering the Pukhria bus stand.

At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other, triggering the clash.

They also hurled brickbats at each other, leaving at least 50 people injured.

Vehicular movement on the Faridpur-Dhaka-Barishal highway remained suspended for some time following the clash, reports UNB.

On information, police rushed to the spot and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
