A Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) staffer was shot by miscreants in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Friday night.

The victim, identified as Tanzid, 35, was shot near the Saidabad water pump under Jatrabari at around 10:30pm and later he was rescued and rushed  to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency unit.

Tanzid is employed as a worker at the Dhaka South City Corporation, reportedly engaged in mosquito control activities.

His friend Mamun, said around 10–15 unidentified miscreants arrived at the scene and opened fire on Tanzid, hitting him below the knee of his left leg before fleeing the area, reports UNB.

He could not confirm the motive behind the attack or identify the attackers, he added.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said an injured man was brought to the hospital from Jatrabari and admitted to the emergency department.

“We have informed Jatrabari Police Station about the incident,” he added.
