Dhaka, 27 Jan - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched the CCDM T20 Challenge Cup as part of its efforts to unearth new cricketing
talent, according to the board's director and media committee chairman, Amzad
Hussein.
Speaking at the inauguration of the tournament at the National Cricket Ground
in Purbachal, Amzad emphasized the tournament's role in strengthening
Bangladesh's domestic T20 pipeline.
"We hope the tournament will serve as a strong platform to bolster our
pipeline of future stars," Amzad said at the inauguration of the tournament
as the chief guest at the National Cricket Ground in Purbachal today.
"We firmly believe that players who perform well here will be considered
potential stars for our national team."
Amzad highlighted the gap in Bangladesh's domestic T20 structure, noting that
the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 is the only recognized competition
outside the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
"For T20, apart from the NCL T20, we don't have any other recognized domestic
tournament," Amzad pointed out.
"As a result, players who perform well in the NCL T20 are typically picked
for BPL teams, and only a few new faces emerge beyond the BPL draft or
auction system."
He also referred to how neighboring countries like India and Sri Lanka have
structured their domestic T20 competitions to identify new talent.
"Our neighboring countries organize a significant number of national T20
tournaments, which have played an important role in shaping their T20 sides,"
Amzad explained.
"Countries like India and Sri Lanka have strong domestic T20 systems, and we
hope that the CCDM T20 Challenge will play a similar role for us."
Amzad concluded by reiterating the importance of strengthening the domestic
cricket culture to build a solid foundation for the national team.
"The performance of the national team will be stronger if the domestic
cricket structure is robust. Historically, we've struggled in T20
internationals, so it's crucial to focus on building a strong T20 team."BSS
