Arthur to guide Rangpur remotely for GSL

Dhaka, 29 June - Renowned South African coach Mickey Arthur is set to supervise Rangpur Riders but will work remotely during his side's campaign 

in Guyana Global Super League (GSL).

Arthur is unable to supervise defending GSL champions Rangpur Riders directly 
due to his ongoing commitments with Derbyshire County Cricket Club in the 
English County Championship.

"Mickey Arthur is coaching Derbyshire County Cricket Club at this moment and 
so he is unavailable to guide the team directly in GSL," Rangpur Riders Team 
Director Shanian Taneem said during a press conference today at Bashundhara 
Sports City.

Rangpur, however, appointed Greg Smith as the head coach and he will work 
under Arthur's remote supervision, Shanian revealed.
 
"Greg Smith is someone whom Arthur fully trusts. Arthur will stay connected 
with the players and continue to offer his input. Greg Smith will lead the 
team under Mickey's guidance."

Under the guidance of Arthur Rangpur clinched the GSL trophy last year. He 
also supervised the team in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in which 
his side made the playoffs. 

He was involved in forming this season's squad also, Shanian informed.
"He coached our team in the last GSL and BPL. We believe in his abilities and 
we have strong confidence on him," the Rangpur director said.

"We stayed connected with him while forming the team and discussed which 
players would perform well in Guyana pitches."

Former national captain Mohammad Ashraful will also return to the coaching 
set up, after playing a vital role in the side's successful GSL campaign last 
season.

"Ashraful had a significant contribution in our winning campaign last year. 
He will be part of our coaching panel also," Shanian said. 

The 2025 edition of the Global Super League will feature five teams and is 
set to take place in Guyana from 10 to 18 July.
 
Rangpur will kick off their mission to defend the title by taking on Guyana 
Amazon Warriors on the opening day of the tournament.
 
Rangpur also unveiled its jersey and struck sponsorship deal for the GSL 
today.

They have signed an international sponsorship agreement, partnering with 
Turkish Airlines as their Platinum partner. Raw Nation, a Bangladesh-based 
clothing brand, will be there as Rangpur's Gold partner for the tournament.BSS
