Dhaka, 25 Oct- Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter appeared to be prepared for upcoming Test series against West Indies after showing no visible signs of discomfort during a net session at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy ground today.
Liton, who is recovering from a hip joint injury, batted for about an hour, facing throw-downs, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and other net bowlers.
He appeared comfortable at the crease and struck several shots, including a trademark leg-side stroke that sailed beyond the nets.
The 30-year-old exercised some caution during the session and took breaks to stretch between deliveries. Bangladesh spin-bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed also offered him guidance on body balance and shoulder positioning.
Liton missed Bangladesh's training session on Saturday but returned to batting practice on Sunday. He was not seen practicing wicket-keeping during the session.
He sustained the injury ahead of the tri-nation series following the physical demands of prolonged wicket-keeping and batting during Bangladesh's Test against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
With the upcoming Test series forming part of the ICC World Test Championship, Litton's fitness is particularly important for Bangladesh. The team management had concerns over his availability before naming the Test squad but ultimately included him.
According to the BCB medical department, no further medical assessment of Liton's fitness is required at this stage.
With no issues identified during medical examinations, he is expected to gradually increase his training workload after adequate rest and work towards full match fitness.
If Liton is unable to play, Jaker Ali Anik is an option as wicketkeeper-batter. Bangladesh could also consider Towhid Hridoy if the team management opts to include an additional specialist batter at the expense of a bowler.
The team could face another selection decision if Liton is fit enough to play as a batter but not to keep wickets, potentially necessitating an additional batter to maintain balance in the playing XI.BSS
