Dhaka, Jan 25 – The High Court on Sunday issued a contempt of court rule against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin for allegedly violating its order to dispose of an application seeking registration of Krishak Sramik Janata Party as a political party.

The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan issued the rule following a contempt petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Yunus Ali Akond.

The court asked CEC AMM Nasir Uddin to respond to the rule within four weeks.

Advocate Yunus Ali Akond said the High Court had directed the Chief Election Commissioner on August 27 last year to dispose of the application regarding the registration of Krishak Sramik Janata Party.

However, he said the order was not complied with despite the lapse of a considerable period. As a result, a contempt of court petition was filed against the CEC for disobeying the court’s directive, following which the court issued the rule. - UNB
