College teacher murder: Husband awarded death wife life term

A Cox’s Bazar Court on Thursday sentenced a man to death and awarded his wife to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing a college teacher.

Convict Saleh Jongi alias Chhoton is a resident of Sikder Para in Pekua upazila while his wife lifer is Asma Ul Husna Lipy.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Judge of Cox’s Bazar Abdullah Al Mamun pronounced the verdict in absence of the convicts.

The court also fined Chhoton Tk 10 lakh, in default, he will have to serve five years more in the prison, and Lipy Tk 5 lakh, in default, she will suffer three years more in the prison. The court’s Additional Public Prosecutor Nurul Islam Helali confirmed the matter to the media.

The case statement said Chhoton locked in an altercation with his neighbor college teacher Farhad on May 6, 2015 in connection with a dispute. At one stage, Chhoton shot Farhad, leaving him dead.

Later, the victim’s father Yunus lodged the case with Pekua Police Station of the district in this connection. - Special Correspondent
