2 sentenced to death for killing college principal in Tangail
A court here today sentenced two people to death for the murder of Jamal Hossain Thandu, a college principal, in Sakhipur upazila of the district in 2011.
Special Court of the Sessions Judge Begum Shahana Haque Siddika delivered the verdict this afternoon.
The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each, reports BSS.
The convicted were identified as Minhazur Rahman Mintu, son of late Hasan Ali of Fulbagh Gobarchaka village of Sakhipur upazila and Abdul Malek Shukur, son of Suryad Ali of the same village.
According to the details of the case, a group of assailants, led by Mintu, hacked Jamal Hossain to death while he was on his way home from Palashtali Mohabidyalaya in Sakhipur upazila over previous enmity on October 20, 2011.
Later, Praveen Begum, wife of Jamal Hossain filed a murder case with Sakhipur Police Station.
The investigation officer submitted the charge-sheet against five suspects in 2012.
The court also acquitted three others accused as the allegation brought against them could not be proved, public prosecutor (PP) Mohammad Mohsin Sikder added.
