A court today placed Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala on a one-day remand in a money laundering case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on a three-day remand in the case.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Agarwala from the city’s Banani area on October 19.

According to the case documents, between September 6, 2006, and February 8, 2024, the company legally imported gold bars, jewellery and loose diamonds worth Taka 38.47 crore through letters of credit, while procuring gold and diamonds worth around Taka 678.19 crore from the local market.

It failed to provide valid documents on the sources and suppliers of the locally procured items, raising suspicions that they might have been smuggled into the country.

The case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on November 17, 2025, under the Money Laundering Prevention Act by CID Inspector Mohammad Asaduzzaman Sheikh, reports BSS.
