A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent Bidisha Hossain, former wife of late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, to jail after she was convicted in a case involving an apartment sale agreement, embezzlement and threats.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Zunaid passed the order after police produced Bidisha before the court in compliance with a conviction warrant.

Her lawyer sought bail, saying they would appeal against the conviction.

On May 20, 2026, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam sentenced Bidisha to two years in prison and fined her Tk 10,000 in the case.

According to case documents, businessman AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar entered into an agreement with Bidisha in 2001 to purchase Flat 2/B at the President Park apartment complex in Baridhara for Tk 80 lakh.

Shikdar paid Tk 75 lakh through a pay order before the flat was registered.

Bidisha was supposed to complete the registration and hand over the apartment by July 10, 2002, but failed to do so.

After delaying the matter for several years, she later agreed to refund the money and issued a cheque. The cheque was subsequently dishonoured several times when presented for payment, according to the case documents.

The complainant also alleged that Bidisha threatened him when he demanded the return of the money and the dishonoured cheque.

Shikdar filed the case in 2008.
