Over 1,100 Children Killed or Injured in Mideast War

More than 1,100 children have been killed or injured since the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran began on 28 February, according to the UNICEF.

In a statement, the UN children’s agency warned that the intensifying conflict is creating a “catastrophic” situation for millions of children across the Middle East.

The reported toll includes about 200 children killed in Iran, 91 in Lebanon, four in Israel and one in Kuwait, the agency said.

UNICEF cautioned that the number of child casualties could rise further as the violence continues and spreads across the region.

The conflict has also severely disrupted daily life for children. Millions have been forced to miss school, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced as bombardments continue.

“Nothing justifies the killing and maiming of children, or the destruction and disruption of essential services that children depend on,” the agency said.

It added that the region’s nearly 200 million children are relying on urgent global action to bring an end to the violence and protect their lives and future.
