Israeli airstrikes on Iran early Saturday reportedly targeted several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to two Israeli sources familiar with the operation.

The sources said the strikes also aimed at Iran’s armed forces Chief of Staff Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi, as well as senior security officials including Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Defence Council, and Ali Larijani, secretary of the National Security Council.

It was not immediately clear whether any of the targeted figures were killed or injured. Iranian authorities have yet to issue official confirmation regarding their condition or whereabouts.

The reported strikes followed coordinated military action by the United States and Israel on multiple locations across Iran, including the capital, Tehran. US President Donald Trump described the operation as “major combat.”

The escalation comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and after weeks of heightened rhetoric between Washington and Tehran. Analysts warn the developments mark one of the most serious direct confrontations in recent months, fuelling concerns of a wider regional conflict.

Iran has since launched retaliatory missile strikes targeting northern Israel and several US military bases in the Middle East. Casualty figures and the extent of the damage remain unclear.
