Apartment building damaged during Russian missile strikes, amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine, in the town of Balakliia, Kharkiv region, Ukraine Nov 17, 2025.

A Russian missile strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Balakliia killed three people and wounded 10, including three teenagers, Kharkiv regional officials reported on Monday.

The overnight attack damaged multi-storey residential buildings and destroyed numerous cars in the city centre, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synehubov said on Telegram.

A photo released by authorities showed a brick apartment building with shattered windows, flames on an upper floor, and debris scattered across the area.

The teenagers were among those injured, Vitali Karabanov, head of Balakliia’s military administration, said, while nine of the wounded were admitted to hospital.

Moscow made no immediate comment on the strike.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has faced repeated missile, drone and artillery attacks, damaging homes and infrastructure, cutting power, and keeping residents under constant air-raid alerts.

Both sides deny targeting civilians in the nearly four-year conflict, but thousands have died, the vast majority of them Ukrainian.

Parts of the region, including the southern city of Izyum, experienced power outages overnight after Sunday’s attacks, which also injured a 14-year-old, city authorities said.
