Russian Strikes Disrupt Ukraine Power and Heating Systems
A massive Russian attack has struck Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, triggering power cuts across several regions, Kyiv’s energy minister said Saturday.
Moscow has intensified assaults on Ukraine’s energy facilities in recent months, damaging natural gas plants that supply the main fuel for heating, raising concerns of possible winter shortages.
“The enemy is massively attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure again. Emergency power outages have been introduced in several regions,” Minister Svitlana Grynchuk wrote on social media, without specifying locations.
“Emergency outages will end once the energy system stabilises,” she added. “Despite the enemy’s plans, Ukraine will have light and heat this winter.”
Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s power and heating grid during its nearly four-year invasion, causing widespread damage to key civilian infrastructure.
On Friday evening, drones struck an energy facility in southern Ukraine’s Odesa region, according to Governor Oleg Kiper, who reported no casualties.
In response, Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian oil depots and refineries in recent months, aiming to disrupt Moscow’s energy exports and create fuel shortages.
