Iran executed Bahman Choubi-asl on Monday, with the judiciary describing him as “one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran.”

The country has long accused individuals of working with Israel’s Mossad intelligence service and facilitating its operations, often resulting in executions.

According to Iran’s judiciary, Mossad sought Choubi-asl’s cooperation to access government databases, breach Iranian data centres, and track the import routes of electronic equipment.

The Supreme Court had rejected his appeal and confirmed the death sentence on charges of “corruption on earth.”

Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated into a direct conflict in June when Israel struck multiple targets inside Iran, including operations involving Mossad commandos deployed deep inside the country.

Executions of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel have risen sharply this year, with at least 10 death sentences carried out in recent months.
