Dr Yunus submits statement in Labour Court case

Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus Chairman of Gramin Telecom Limited and its Managing Director Ashraful Hasan on Monday submitted a written statement in the Labour Court in a case filed by eight workers claiming dividend of the company.

On Monday, Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun filed the statement in the Third Labour Court of Dhaka on behalf of Dr Yunus. Later, hearing would be held in the court on the written statement. Barrister AHM Sanjid Siddiqui appeared in the court on behalf of the workers.

Earlier, on November 9, last year, the case was filed in the Labour Court accusing Gramin Telecom Limited Chairman Dr Mummad Yunus and Managing Director Ashraful Hasan.

Seven former officers and a worker of the Gramin Telecom Company lodged eight separate cases in the Third Labour Court of Dhaka. Later, accepting the cases, the court directed Gramin Telecom authorities to submit written statement.

Meanwhile, Barrister Sanjid Siddiqui said the seven officers and the lone worker were in service of the company from 2006 to 2009. They were not paid the dividend of the company during 2006 to 2009. - Special Correspondent
